Locations of Interest
Kar'thir
Kar'thir is the capital city of Karlak and the single largest urban center on the planet. Unlike many Imperial capitals, Kar'thir was not one of the planet's oldest cities, but rather a "new capital" who's location was carefully selected to be a prime location near fertile plains, resource rich-mountains, and a stable orbit for the main Comercia Station. The core city houses a population of nearly three-quarters of a million residents, with another million and a half living in the greater metropolitan area surrounding it. A classic example of civilized imperial lands, the city is a mixed-use sprawl of three-story to six-story structures rising up to a few hundred story sky-scrapers in the city core with a few truck and rail lines breaking up the narrow streets and alleyways that define the gothic urban blocks. The Byzantine Palace, located just off of the commercial downtown, serves as the planet's principal governmental complex.
Citadel Primus
Citadel Primus is the center of the Departmento Munitorum operations on Karlak and, technically, its first Hive. Constructed out of five Bastion-Pattern STC Fortified Hive Blocks arranged in a pyramid (and littered with nearly a thousand out-buildings) Citadel Primaris houses by nearly one million of the 15 million Departmento Munitorum personnel and support staff located on Karlak in an area of only 4 square kilometers (though it reaches over 2 km high). Located less than five kilometers to the north of Kar'thir, the massive structure serves as an indisputable reminder of the city and planet's new place in the Calixus Sector as one of the most significant Munitorum centers after Scintilla.
Verdansk
Verdansk is a small port town of approximately eight thousand souls located fifteen kilometers to the east of Kar'thir, though it feels far more remote due to the massive ridge which separates the two, leaving a few mountain roads or the train tunnel as the only good lines of transit between them. Although it was largely a whaling town prior to the outbreak of the Periphery war, the port has been updated to accept promethium from the expanded fields of off-shore platforms and lower-priority cargo destined for Citadel Primus by rail. The city is also known for Verdansk Penetentry, which has been used to house penal legions in transit, and for Verdansk Arena, a prime stop for intermural Blood Bowl.
Sunken City
Far off in the depths of the southern ocean stands a submerged city of alien origin. While generally ignored and consider rumor for thousands of years, recent activity has spurned more concerted exploration. Only within the last few years did a Rogue Trader (Drake) discover that the mythical sunken city was, in fact, a Necron Tomb complex resting beneath the waves. The area has subsequently been cordoned off and forbidden by a joint order of the Imperium & Mechanicum while they argue about the right to study, raid or destroy the massive xenos installation.
