Rogue Trader Timeline House Rules Guide and Lore |
The Abhorrent started her life as a navy vessel, commissioned for Battlefleet Calixis. After only three centuries of service, she suffered badly from a series of Ork hit and run attacks. Though she would successfully escape their clutches, her structure was never the same, and the Navy retired her from service to be stripped and scrapped. The Bastille Dynasty saved her from this fate, buying her off the Navy for cheap and performing the extensive repairs at their own cost. She then served the Bastilles for seven generations before she was captured by the Drake Dynasty during the search for the Dread Pearl.
Sword-class Escort Frigate
Dimensions: 1.6 km long, 0.3 km abeam approx.
Mass: 6 megatonnes approx.
Crew: 26000 crew, approx.
Accel: 4.5 gravities max sustainable acceleration
The Sword frigates have been a mainstay escort vessel for Battlefleet Calixis ever since its founding. Every system aboard one of these frigates has been tried and tested in innumerable engagements. Its laser-based weapons and turrets are accurate and hard-hitting, its plasma drives are rugged and reliable in extreme conditions. Few task forces do not include at least a pair of Swords to guard the flanks of larger vessels or pursue smaller, faster raiders. More than a few Rogue Traders have noticed the stellar performance of these vessels and obtained one. With a few minor conversions to increase holds, Swords suit their needs quite well.
Ship's Captain
Captain Silo Aries was raised and trained on the Lathes before being hired on by the Drake Dynasty. As a Mechanicus born, he brings a unique perspective to both ship operation and leadership. He also brings along his personal army of Murder Servitors. The Abhorrent is his first command.
History
Silo Aries was born on the Lathes and raised in the Cult of the Machine. Like nearly all born on the Forge Worlds, he was evaluated and set for a purpose early in his life. Based on his aptitude and genetics, it was decided that he would be placed on the path of a voidship officer. He started his training young, and by his twentieth year, was an ensign on a system ship, the first step for many young officers.
He distinguished himself among the mechanicus meritocracy, and slowly advanced through the ranks of void officers. Despite several attempts, however, he could never display the comprehension necessary to become an Acolyte. After a decade, he accepted that he would never be inducted into the cult, and turned his full attention to the operation of voidships, a move which greatly accelerated his progress through the ranks of the exploration fleets.
The Margin Crusade, however, has since occupied much of the Lathes' shipbuilding capacity, reducing the overall size of the exploration fleets the Forge Worlds are able to maintain. At the time when the rising Commander Aries should have gained his own ship, he fell victim to this shortage and was grounded to wait for a command position to arise. It was from this wait that Acanthus Drake rescued him, hiring him on as a fleet captain.
Rules
Inhuman Demands Captain Aries pushes his men beyond the limits of endurance and as inspiring as he can be, few can be said to enjoy serving under him. Permanently reduce morale by 10.
Heart of the Machine Captain Aries has an innate understanding of how to hold his ship and crew together, even under heavy fire, that has only been strengthened by his years of experience. His ship reduces all critical damage suffered from shooting by 2, and reduces all moral damage by 1, to a minimum of 1.
