Roaming

Captain Korbal Aizdar

KorbalAizdar.jpg

Captain Azdar is a roaring giant of a man, quick to curse but quicker to laugh. His family lineage is an ancient one: his most prized possession, which he'll eventually get around to pointing out to any passenger, is his hereditary charter to ply the space lanes of Calixis and beyond as a free trader. Sealed behind a small stasis shield, the charter has been passed down in his family for close to a thousand years and bears the signature of no less a person then Drusus himself.

Captain Aizder has a stunning collection of oddities and artworks that he has amassed over the years, a common affectation with wealthy voidsmen, which he proudly shows off. He is especially fond of his Confessor Frog, a small amphibian known for both is distinct croaking cry of "repent-ti-ti" and the fact that it's the only known creature from the death world of Woe that is not deadly, at least not to humans.

Captain Korbel Aizder's ship, the Pax Behemoth, is a smaller vagabond class transport who's plodding gait makes her a slow but reliable vessel for trading among the comparatively safe warp lanes of the Calixis sector. Her massive cargo holds make good on keeping such lanes profitable, and Captain Aizder has maintained his modest fortune working critical and last minute shipments that can't wait for the next Mass Conveyor to come around.

During their short stay when they booked passage on the Pax Behemoth, Drake became good friends with the jovial captain. He offered up the use of his ship again, should Drake ever find himself with Calixis sector shipping that he needed done.

Captain Archabald Keel

Captain Keel is the Lord Captain of the Hand of Redemption, a Imperial Navy Lunar-Class cruiser in the Calixis Battlefleet.  The Explorers first encounted Keel when he informed them of his mission to their lost colony of Svard.  He accompanied them to the system officially under the Rogue Trader's command, but stayed out of most of the endeavor searching the system.  As was discovered later, he was secretly searching the system for his twin brother, who had traveled to the system and disappeared.

After the discovery of his Whisperer-possessed brother on Installation 23, Captain Keel joined in the battle fighting against first the possessed station, than the battleship sized form of the Whisperer itself.  His brother, who was an inquisitorial acolyte, was ultimately killed in the fighting.  Although Captain Keel took his brother's death hard, he did not blame the Drake.

Later investigation with the Imperial Navy discovered that Captain Keel had, in fact, not been ordered to Svard, or even the Koronus Expanse by the Admiralty, but had simply traveled there during his patrol to search for his brother.  His successful destruction of a Xenos threat and subtle influence by the Inquisition saved his captainship, but he's been relegated to convoy duty for transports headed to the Periphery War.

Interrogator Septimus Strophes

Septimus Strophes is a Throne Agent for Inquisitor Lord Staven Arcturos, as well as a distant cousin of Laurent Strophes. Lord Drake met him on his wedding day, but it was not long before he introduced himself as an agent for the Inquisitor Lord. It was he who brought up the notion, on behalf of Staven Arcturos, of taking a force to the Periphery War and assisting in locating specific xenos threats. In exchange, the Inquisitor would use some of his influence to support Lord Drake's forces and legitimacy for being in the Periphery Subsector with an independent army and fleet.

Once it was time to deploy to the Periphery War, Septimus joined them while serving on board an Arbites frigate. Ostensibly, he was there as a high-ranking Arbitrator to help bring the Lex Imperialis back to the subsector, but his primary goal is to ferret out the secrets of xenos presence.

As a Throne Agent, he ranks as an Interrogator, working as a secret-breaker for Lord Inquisitor Arcturos. Those in the know with Inquisition agents know that he is being groomed to eventually assume the role as a full Inquisitor, following in his Master's footsteps. Being given the lead to hunt down xenos abominations in the chaos of the Periphery War is seen as a test for his ability to command and advance the goals of Ordo Xenos without the traditional support of planetary governments or other arms of the Imperial government.

Scintilla

Inquisitor Staven Arcturos

Inquisitor Arcturos is relatively new to the rank of Inquisitor Lord and is just getting used to operating in the semi-open, rather than working from the shadows as the younger, less prominent inquisitors do. While it is unknown where he bases his operations out of, he does at least keep a few offices on Scintilla for meeting with his acolytes and others of interest. He is known to be of the Ordo Xenos and to use Farseer's runestones, which marks him as a moderate, if not a radical.

Strophes

Laurent Strophes

Nobleman Strophes is a broad man, resembling a large stump with legs. His left arm and right eye are graceful prosthetics of adamantine and sliver, clearly worth a fortune. He wears loose-fitting garments and keeps his head shaved. Lord Strophes speaks with a forceful ringing tone and stands with an erect posture that instantly gives him away as a former officer of the Imperial Navy. His daughter has managed to bring out a muted sense of humor in him, though, and he isn't as grim as one may expect from his appearance. He is very straightforward, with no hidden agenda.

Julia Drake (neé Strophes)

Julia wears brightly colored garments with long trails that swirl about her feet as she moves. Her bright red hair is cut short about her neck. A cheerful and headstrong woman, Julia disdains the normal activities that most young noblewomen of Hive Sibelius regularly fill their time with, a trait she blames on her beloved hard-headed father. Julia is an exception in some ways to the typical Sibellus noble outlook as she was truly worried about her cousin and does care about people in a vague sort of way. She is the recent bride to Acanthus Drake.

Misc. Nobility

Most of these individuals were encountered during the investigation of the Joyous Choir, although a few popped in as dinner guests later on.

Sorkat Authwaite

A wealthy nobleman with extensive holdings in Gunmetal City, Authwaite is a sturdy-looking fellow in his 150s. He is a true gun aficionado and always enjoys speaking to those who "know their barrels from their backsides".

Lord Raephen Verence

Verence is one of the nobles of Marius Hax's court, and easily one of the most influential members of Scintilla society you have been introduced to. His features have taken on the amorphously ageless quality of one who uses rejuvenate treatments to frequently. He often keeps himself surrounded by a bevy of young ladies to continually laugh at his bad jokes.

Lady Tanae Borella

Tanae is an older madam of austere appearance, but she is still a bright light in the room, figuratively and often literally. Unlike many of the noble members of the Joyous Choir, she has become a true believer, and his happy to spread their message to others.

Silvester Bogomov

A gaunt, middle-aged noble who's major wealth comes from Scintilla's unusual fishing industry. Having just come into some extra wealth, he purchased a couple of nicer pieces from Drake's cargo to better impress his peers.

Tamera Spealding

A young, beautiful noblewoman and cheap date, Tamera was swept off her feet by Lord Tacticus.

Carmen Puedta

A middle-aged woman and social butterfly, she is hampered by her dim-witted husband, who she is often preventing from doing lasting damage to their finances or reputation.

The Uncommon Folk

The important or interesting citizens of Scintilla who live outside of the spires.

Malene Trun

Malene is a pretty woman who, as a mid-hiver, is out of her depth when dealing with the nobles of Hive Sibellus. She is a devout member of the Joyous Choir. After the cult's founder, Caros Shoal, died and several propionate counselors were arrested, Malene found herself catapulted up to a senior position within the Joyous Choir, now all but running the cult. In the years since the incident, the cult has managed to become a legitimate sect at the cost of loosing the fashionable, risque reputation that made it popular with the idle rich. The reformed cult has, however, gained a lot of traction among the well connected of the mid-hive. Shaped by her fight for legitimacy and now standing at the head of a not-insignificant following, Malene has become a dynamic and forceful presence in the Scentillan Archbishop's court.

Oracle Ocular

As much a place as a man, the ancient enginseer who became the Oracle Ocular lives deep in the machine heart of Ambulon. Unbeknownst to the majority of the citizens of the walking hive, the Oracle is connected to a dizzying array of cognators, logic engines, and data spools that give it an informational and predictive ability that borders on the supernatural. While the vast majority of both its information and foretellings revolve around Ambulon itself, it is impossible to tell how deep it's reserves of data go.

Greater Calixis Sector

Seperus Sencondus

Baron Havalir Saerton Ulbrexis

Baron Ulbrexis became know throughout the Calixis Sector as one of the greatest Deviants in its recent history. Described as a persuasive Orator and ruthless heretic by Imperial Scribes, the Baron led a massive serf rebellion supported by countless mutants which killed millions of serfs, scores of nobles, and all but brought Sepheris Secundus grinding to a halt. At long last, he was tracked down and executed by the tireless members of the Adeptus Arbites. Or so the official story goes.

The true Baron was much more restrained on his approach, and while his work did significantly reduce the mineral output of the mines, he was by no means bringing the world to its knees. Instead, he championed serfs' rights and modernization of the mining processes both to increase production and pull his world out from the endless cycle of mining and imports. His revolution was virtually bloodless until his lieutenant, Assod Morirr, took to his own plans and started a series of deadly, violent attacks for his own retribution against the unmutated masses.

The Baron was captured by the Arbeties, who captured him under pressure from the planetary government. He was, however not executed, but rather sent away and imprisoned on the moon of Solas. There he would sit, read and rot for a decade before finally being freed by the Rogue Trader Drake. Though he has suffered malnutrition, imprisonment, and even torture, he remained unbroken. He returned to Sepheris Secundus with Lord Drake, teamed up with the Arbietes and put down his old bloody-minded lieutenant to reclaim his birthright and restart his industrial revolution now with the Rogue Trader's backing.

Proctor Noles Rotlan

Proctor Rotlan is a tall imposing man, as is often the case with members of the Adeptus Arbites. Unlike most of his fellows, though, Rotlan has an active imagination, which has served him as an asset, turning him into one of Sepheris Secundus's chief investigators. However, he is not poplar wit the local nobles as he is too skilled by far (in their opinion) at ferreting out their schemes to hide resources from the Imperium. The ongoing troubles with the Broken Chains had allowed many of the baronial enemies to accuse him of incompetence - a charge he found difficult to fight until Drake and Ulbrexis' intervention. Although he keeps himself to his jurisdiction, had begun to wonder if the abject serfdom was truly in the Imperium's best interest.

Tennenberg

Lord William Heltz Theot

Lord William Heltz

High Lord of the House of Theot and now Planetary Governor of Tennenberg, William Heltz is a nearly two-meter tall imposing figure clad in a ceremonial breastplate and seemingly constantly comping on a fat cigar. He has ruled his house for more than four decades ow, following the traditional values that have kept it stable and successful. Strict adherence to the Imperial Creed and social system of Tennenberg, and ensuring the undisputed ruler of his word within the House Theot domain. This is not to say that he is uncreative or inflexible though, his politics are simply a continuation of successful policies and the following of tradition is something he is willing to subvert if he stands to gain from doing so. Generally Machiavellian in his rule and strictly formal in court, William can be cordial and casual in person - the sort of person who can laugh and joke while arranging the murder of a rival over a glass of wine.

Magos Radium Uriel

The senior Adeptus Mechanicus representative on Tennenberg, Magos Radium Uriel is a retired Exploritor who generally tries to stay one step removed from the twisting politics and social games of the Tennenberg nobility. During the succession crisis, Magos Uriel had been petitioning for a mission of recovery to retrieve a mysterious artifact from a lost Mechanicus vessel. Since Lord Drake recovered the Arcanum Chronometer and brought it to him, he has been happily focused on unlocking its secrets and attempting replication.

Valon Urr

Lord-Commander Shori Strophes

Lady Shori Strophes, cousin of Julia Strophes, is the commanding officer of a small Battlefleet monitoring and supply station in orbit above the Shrine world of Valon Urr. A little on the fringes of the family due to her position and location, she welcomed the Explorers with open arms and great excitement.

Armaggeddon

Justinian Berg

Justinian is an inquisitor from the Armaggeddon Conclave. A highly talented socialite and blather, this man of indeterminate age uses his half-smiles and beguiling brown eyes are to draw people in. He presents himself as naturally flirtatious, with little apparent discrimination of target. He wears a fine-mesh armor shirt and has a tendency towards earthen tones.

He acted as a point of contact for Lord Drake on Armaggedon when they arrived to turn over the prisoners they had collected during the Oculus encounter. He provided them with some background information collected from the Inquisitorial archives and shared their concern over the apparent multi-sector reach of the Serrated Query.
