Rogue Trader Timeline House Rules Guide and Lore |
Thrones or Throne Gelt, is the default monetary system of the Calexis Sector, and by default, the Koronus Expanse. The value of a "Throne" when not otherwise amended, will vary depending on the status of the people doing the speaking. For middle hives and other non-nobility, a throne typically refers to a Silver Throne, while for nobility and wealthy merchants, a "Throne" will instead refer to a Golden Throne, which has a significantly higher value. Small transactions, particularly among regular citizens, take place using the physical coins minted from the relevant precious metal. Merchants and other users of vast quantities of money may instead use Throne-Bars (minted bars of the solid precious metal), or multi-throne scripts. The bottom members of society, however, are often found using alternative monitory systems, from weapon rounds to found items. In many worlds, Half-Thrones and Quater-Thrones are created by literally cutting the coin into pieces, though some civilized words mint specific Halves, Quarters and Eights out of local metals, such Nickel or Copper. In areas with large numbers of unskilled laborers, the local fractional currency is popular. The official exchange rate is 1 Golden Throne = 50 Silver Thrones; with Bars and Scripts being equal to their weight and printed value accordingly.
A Silver Throne averages around the wage for a day of unskilled labor, while a skilled laborer can earn five or even a dozen depending on their training and specialties.
