Swordfrigate.jpeg

The Eldridge is true navy vessel, built for war from nose to keel. She has served with distinction in both the Koronus Expanse and Calixis Sector, under a number of captains. Under her current captain, she has started being tasked with more independent operations, from pirate hunting to scouting missions. Her success during the fleet engagement above the ork-assaulted world of Minrus has led her to be first in line for operations with Rogue Traders. A short time after the Dread Pearl incident, the navy assigned her to fulfill a ten year contract to provide an escort to the Drake Dynasty.

Sword-class Frigate

Dimensions: 1.6 km long, 0.3 km abeam approx.
Mass: 6 megatonnes approx.
Crew: 26000 crew, approx.
Accel: 4.5 gravities max sustainable acceleration

The Sword frigates have been a mainstay escort vessel for Battlefleet Calixis ever since its founding. Every system aboard one of these frigates has been tried and tested in innumerable engagements. Its laser-based weapons and turrets are accurate and hard-hitting, its plasma drives are rugged and reliable in extreme conditions. Few task forces do not include at least a pair of Swords to guard the flanks of larger vessels or pursue smaller, faster raiders.

Ship's Captain

Cain Durant.jpg

Captain Cain Durant is in many ways a typical Navy captain. He runs his ship with the hierarchical authority and iron discipline the Imperial Navy is known for, and his ship is powerful because of it. Acanthus Drake isn't the first Rogue Trader he's been attached to, but Cain hasn't decided his opinion of him yet.

History

Captain Cain Durant was born on the Hive World of Archaos out in the Durusian Marches, the second child of a prominent noble family. Like many generations of "spares" in his lineage, Cain joined the Navy as an officer a short time after completing his education. His wealth and background helped position him well for advancement, and by the time he received his first shipboard duty, he was already a second lieutenant.

Though not without ambition, his goals were comparatively modest, concentrating on gaining command of a vessel, rather than seeking the cruiser tonnage many of his peers work towards (and often fell short). As a skilled and focused officer, he was able to advance well in that direction, and within a few decades was granted command of a Cobra destroyer. He served with distinction and when the ship was reassigned to battlefleet Ixaniad, he was moved to command of the Eldridge.

Captain Durant has served as the commander of the Eldridge for many years now and has found himself perfectly content to remain in such a position. The Eldridge itself has been passed several times between the Koronus and Calixis battlefleets as each has needed escorts, and has served well under both. His first time serving with a Rogue Trader was with Harock Fel as part of the assault fleet on the ork-held world of Minrus. Since then he has worked with Sun Lee, Charlebelle Armelan, and most recently, Acanthus Drake.

Rules

Officer of the Fleet: The Eldridge has an officer core and chain of command a private vessel could never gather or sustain. The ship counts as having a PC in every ship role. In addition, they may perform as many Extended Actions as desired. (Included Below.)

Call of Duty: The Eldridge is an observer and attaché to the Drake Fleet, as such, Drake's command is tenuous at best. The Eldridge will always do what is in the Navy's best interests, as interpreted by its captain.
