Background

Dominica La Forge was born to the head (La Forge) family on the Forge of Destiny, a Nova class Frigate owing allegiance to the Mechanicus. After achieving their majority, the females of her family served as Sisters of Battle and the men served as Adepts of the Omnissiah. However, Dominica was precocious, and managed at age 13 to get the family Carapace - personally blessed by Saint Elizabeth - working again. This proved her right to inherit the armor, and to chose her destiny. She chose service to the Omnissiah, as did her twin brother Dominic. Dominic died during Mechanicus training. Dominica graduated with honors, and the servoskull "Krosp". Dominica has since found out that Krosp is actually Dominic, though he does not remember being him.

Dominica was encouraged by concerned relatives to become an Explorator, after an unfortunate encounter/discussion about the Emperor's divinity with a servant of the Ecclesiarchy. A chance encounter with Lord Captain Drake at Port Wander led to her employment aboard the Aurora Albion. She is serving as the Chief Engineer and Magos Biologus.

Family Background

Of all vessels used by the fleets of the Adeptus Mechanicus, it is the Nova class Frigate that the Imperial Navy take exception to. Its assignment precludes it from the deployment and assault roles primarily required of Space Marine ships, while its speed and lance armament make it a formidable gunboat. The Nova is rare amongst Adeptus Mechanicus fleets, and this is a trend encouraged by the Inquisition and the Imperial Navy. The Forge of Destiny is unusual in that it serves as a mobile space-based Forge assigned by the Forge Master of Mars to specific Space Marine actions.

Weapons

Hellgun (Lucius Pattern)

Rate Range Damage Pen Clip Reload Special
S/3/- 110m 1d10+4 E 7 30 2 Full None.

Known as either a Hellgun or Hot-shot Lasgun, these high-energy weapons are more potent and destructive than common Lasguns, drawing on external energy sources for a more penetrative shot, but also more complex, requiring reinforced barrels, thermal-cooling cells and gyro-stabilized power packs. A substantial backpack power source allows the weapon to be fired in both semi-automatic and rapid-fire modes. While the backpack power source is not quite as powerful as the Hotshot Laser Power Pack used in Long-Las sniper rifles it does produce an intense shot which, while still comparable to one from a normal lasgun, has far superior penetrative power. However only a few Forge Worlds produce hellweapons, and the Departmento Munitorum rarely issues such weapons outside of Storm Trooper companies due to the cost and difficulty in manufacturing and maintaing them. Those issued these weapons train extensively in their repair and maintenance, up to rebuilding them completely if necessary.

Hellpistol (Lucius Pattern)

Rate Range Damage Pen Clip Reload Special
S/2/- 35m 1d10+4 E 7 40 2 Full None.

Hellpistols are typically hand-crafted, rather than mass-produced in factories, and most are hundreds of years old and have acquired histories over the course of centuries of use in combat. Unless otherwise specified, a hellpistol remains the property of the Departmento Munitorum, though an individual can be awarded one for heroic deeds. A hellpistol fires a higher-intensity shot than a laspistol, cauterizing just about any wound it causes and preventing blood from being shed. For this reason, hellpistols have been sanctioned for use as execution weapons for officers and commissars, as a shot to the condemned soldier's head will prevent any blood from staining their uniform.

History

Balanced

The Kroot Rifle is the basic weapon used by the Kroot. It works by firing a solid slug propelled by a chemical reaction, although it was adapted by the Tau to fire Pulse rounds to make it the equivalent to the Boltgun. It is armed with blades near the muzzle and stock and are a throwback to earlier Kroot Fighting Staves, allowing them to use their incredible speed to tear their opponents to pieces in close combat. It is still quite bulky however, and so is not ever combined with another weapon, although it doesn't often need to be.

Storm Bolter

Rate Range Damage Pen Clip Reload Special
S/2/4 90m 2d10+5 E 4 60 Full Storm, Tearing, Righteous Fury on 9 & 10

The Storm Bolter is a compact, double-barreled version of the Boltgun. Resembling two boltguns attached side by side, the storm bolter is capable of withering fire without hindering maneuverability, granting the wielder enormous individual firepower. Storm bolters are popular with Space Marine forces, specifically in the hands of Terminators and as infantry defense on Rhinos. This one is fitted with Hellfire rounds, which replaces the core and tip of the standard bolt round with a vial of mutagenic acid, and thousands of needles that fire into the target's flesh on impact, pumping the acid into the target.

Power Axe (Mezoa)

Damage Pen Special
1d10+7+S R/E 7 Powerfield, Unbalanced

Power axes allow for greater impact when striking than a power sword, but are clumsier to use. They are viewed as a brutal and unsubtle weapon, more suited for crude assault work against rebellious under-hive scum or for xenon races. The huge arc needed to properly attack with one makes use difficult in most ships, so the Mezoa-Pattern features a shorter handle, but larger crescent blade.

Omnissian Axe

Damage Pen Special
2d10+4+S R/E 6 Powerfield, Unbalanced, Two-Handed, Multi-tool

Granted to suitably devoted followers of the Omnissiah, this weapon has a long staff-like body tipped with half of the circular Adeptus Mechanicus skull and cog icon. The symbol forms a blade and is sheathed in a power field. Covered with inscribed circuitry designs indicating the sacred nature of the weapon. Many a foe has realized far to late that what appeared to be a religious walking staff was really a deadly weapon. The Omnissian axe also functions as a combi-tool.

Servo-Harness

Like a Servo-arm, a full servo-harness integrates with the Explorators' power armor and controlled through her MIU interface. Radiating from a boosted fusion backpack capable of powering them all, this cluster of auxiliary limbs aid in battlefield repairs as well as combat. The composition of each servo-harness is unique, customized with the tools most preferred by its owner for tending to machine spirits and laying waste to enemies. Some bare only a few appendages, while others are great spiders of diagnostics, interface tines, drills, weapons, plasma cutters and even more arcane elements that others may struggle to fully understand.

Dominica's Servo-harness is currently equipped with three Servo-Arms; A plasma cutter and a flame welder, and a larger Manipulator arm that can be used (and has been!) as a weapon.

Armor

Carapace Armor

Head Body Arm Leg Special Equipment
7 7 7 7 Blessed, NPCV Sealed Vox

Carapace armour consists of large rigid plates of armaplas, ceramite or some other strong material molded to fit parts of the body. While heavy to wear and unable to cover flexible areas such as joints, it offers far better protection over lighter types of armour such as flak armour. This armour is also as much a status symbol as it is a form of protection, with the carapace breastplate worn by many Imperial Guard officers serving the duel purpose of protecting them and displaying their rank. Carapace armour can range from complete armoured suits like those worn by Storm Troopers and the Adeptus Arbites to individual pieces such as chest plates, helmets, etc. Some bodysuits also include simple slots for carapace plates to be inserted, allowing the wearer to customise their level of protection or more easily replace damaged plates.

This particular suit of armor has been blessed by Saint Elizabeth, an imperial saint known for her Inviolable Aura, a powerful holy aura within which all the faithful are immune to harm.  Some of her protective blessing wore off this armor, rendering it more protective then usual.

Delphis Mark II "Ironclad" Armour

Head Body Arm Leg Special Equipment
10 10 10 10 NPCV Sealed, -20 Agility, Dodge, Acrobatics, and Contortionist tests fail, +20 Str, +1 Size, Autostabalized Auspex, Good Quality Photo-visors, Vox, Recoil Gloves

The Delphis Mark II is a variant of standard power armor that features increased personal protection at the cost of agility, with huge plates of plasteel covering the flatter areas of the body.  Exposed servo-mechanisms run along the legs and arms, and elaborate bracings runs across the spine.  The helmet is small in comparison, with the high metal gorget rising from the neck almost to the cheeks.  The armored gloves are unwieldy - though a person can wield a weapon, tasks requiring manual dexterity are impossible.  The armor is designed to operate with a thermal backpack cell, which can last 12 hours, or a servo-harness whose atomic pile can power it indefinitely.

Servo-Support System

Head Body Arm Leg Special Equipment
0 5 0 9   Leg-Bracings (0 Agility, +20 Lift)

The Servo Support System is essentially a stripped down version of powered armor.  Thick, servo-augmented legs and back allow the unit to hold up and safely operate a full servo-harness, allowing the Techpriest to lift ton-weight armor plates without destroying their own back or legs.  A side effect of the thick support steel and servos is a rather significant amount of protection, if only on the legs.  It is powered by the servo-harness.

Refractor Field

Shield Rating Overload
30 1-5

Refractor field devices see service with highly ranked and trusted imperial agents of all kinds.  No smaller then a pistol ammunition clip, they disperse the energy of an attack throughout the total area of the field effect.  They are noticeable when activated as they surround the user with a hazy glow of light, making them easily detective in low lighting or at night. Many are fashioned in the shape of a gorget and worn around the neck. Due to her Mechanicus Vanity, Dominica's looks like a very complicated Mechanicus Necklace - something like an Egyptian Necklace.
