Zael is the Pilot of the Flaming Cantina vessel belonging to Totally Legitimate Corporation Inc. Zael's past is a bit on the mysterious side, only having the number -8742 tattooed/branded on his right arm, with a blaster burn mark just before it. Zael has a slight addiction to gambling, although recently paid off his small debt to Teemo the Hutt. He is noted for having a slightly clipped accent when he shifts into leader mode and giving orders. He is said to have a striking resemblance to Han Solo, but he just doesn't see it. Maybe in the jaw?

Recently, some of Zael's background was revealed. He is former Imperial of one stripe or another. The team has yet to ask him about it, of which he is completely okay with not answering.

As of late, in exchange for hiding him from the Empire, the Rebellion has placed Zael in the elite unit known as Rogue Squadron. Zael was singularly unimpressed by his then commander, Luke Skywalker. However, command has shifted from Skywalker to a man named Wedge Antilles. With each successful mission, Zael's capability as a pilot grew. Some say that he could even rival Wedge Antilles.

Months later, Zael was returned to the crew of the Flaming Cantina for the operation to attack the second Death Star, and was raised to the rank of General. He and the crew of the Cantina were given the mission (and command of “troops”) to attack an Imperial installation upon the forest moon. The attack was successful, but with heavy casualties as the Rebel Alliance had mislead the Cantina crew as to the quality of the soldiers under their command. Afterward, Zael assisted Merick in beating the commander above them for the sin of little intelligence and green troops without properly informing the ground commanders. The crew was stripped of their rank and returned to the irregulars of the Supply Quartermaster.
