Aspects, one of the three fundamental sections of the character sheet, are simply descriptors for the character. All aspects can have both a positive and negative effect on the character, depending on the particular situation and circumstance they may find themselves in. In Fate of the Deathwatch, there are two fixed aspects (referred to in Fate Accelerated as High Aspects). In addition to the normal aspects, Fate of the Deathwatch utilizes "Gear Aspects".
Fixed Aspects
All characters have two fixed aspects. These aspects are fundamental to the multi-century history of the character, and cannot be changed during play.
Specialization
As a member of the Deathwatch, you are a veteran space marine and have performed for uncounted engagements in every position used by the space marine chapter. Each of you has been a devastator, has been an assault marine, has operated chapter vehicles, and have lead squads into battle. Despite the universality of this training, every marine develops a preferred method of warfare. For some, this will be their Specialization. A few select marines are pushed more quickly through this training to make time for more specialized education. Librarians, Apothicaries and Techmarines each reserve their own special training and are specializations all their own.
Home Chapter
The Deathwatch is not a Space Marine chapter, but rather a specialized collection of Veteran Space Marines pulled from all the chapters of the Imperium. Despite the unity and focus of the Emperor, or perhaps because of his great plan, every chapter has its unique training, philosophy and approach to combat. Every marine caries this history and philosophy with when they enter, and it informs all of their actions, as well as often informing their opinion of their peers.
Standard Aspect
All characters start with one additional aspect that describes a fundamental part of their character, what differentiates them from any other marine with the same specialization and chapter. This one may be changed during play (at milestones) or additional aspects added.
Gear Aspects
The weapon and (later) other equipment choices one makes before the beginning of a mission can be a great influence on the success for falure of that mission. To represent both the fluid nature of this choice, and it's influence on the tasks ahead, each Marine's weapon selection is considered an aspect of the character. As time goes on and the kill team's reputation increases, your marine may be granted the honor of carrying other, more specialized gear or relics into battle which will become aspects of their own.
