The two of them drifted apart shortly after the birth of Hibito Maruyama, as the new child forced Natsumi to become more responsible, while Akinari wasn't ready to give up on his carefree lifestyle. He would eventually get his act together, and is currently working in a company that maintains vending machines in Osaka.
