Events

Jazbina
Jazbina.png
Jazbina is the arid but beautiful and surprisingly cosmopolitan homeworld of the Jazbinans which, while not the capital of the Lostar sector, is a cultural heartland. It is well known both for both it's exceptional salts and spices, as well as its numerous resorts and aromatic baths.

The Jedi of the 13th fleet were summoned by Master Haneul and introduced to an obscure and thin theory developed by republic intelligence that there was a connection between the travels of the popular author Vignon Wenden and a series of separatist defections. Master Haneul has herself looked deep into the Force and has foreseen that there are questions to be answered here. A such, the Jedi were assigned to travel to Vignon's next stop, the planet Jazbina.

They decided to travel inconspicuously, and once again took a generic-looking light freighter to the Jazbina's historic capital city of Hernipakna. Thanks to skilled astronavigation, they arrived the day before the author was due to arrive, which gave the team an opportunity to scout out the author's schedule and her various speaking locations. They were also, due to some quick talking and a lucky cancelation, able to book two rooms in the Fancy Feast Hotel. (Corporate naming was banned shortly after.) During this initial investigation, Wrrlevgebev was able to get hired on at the Hernipakna Upuan Convention Center as an assistant technician to help set up for the convention.

In the morning of the next day (Thursday), Wrrlevgebev headed off to work the convention center while the rest of the team dispersed around the city to try and learn about the general opinions and sentiment of the population. During their explorations, they were able to discover that very independently minded Jazbinan workers chafed against the Republic's rules and supported the separatists. The equally independent nobility and business leaders were against the separatists out of fear of having their companies absorbed into the predatory megacorporations that lead the CIS. They also learned about the anticipated abdication of the king and ascendancy of the princess.

Cammy, the Cam Droid
Cammy.jpg
With camera droids parts in short supply, Cammy's maker used parts from a dozen different droids, including a 'companion' droid's vocabulator. It is to heavily merged into the core processor now to be replaced.

After mid-day, the Jedi all made their way to the Palace at the edge of town to observe the exceptionally VIP reception being held in the Palace Gardens. Tyndale and Tammine obtained good overhead view locations, while Ami and Shalla made good attempts to infiltrate the party, but were ultimately unsuccessful. The evening saw general investigations into Vignon, Alex and Mathias, followed by a long hotel-lobby conversation between Ami and Alex. Wrrlevgebev also procured a refurbished camera droid which was tasked to watch the entrance to Vignon's hotel all night.

A review of the camera footage the next morning (Friday) revealed a mysterious person had indeed departed from the hotel during the night - someone trained well enough in spycraft to avoid being recognizable on camera without looking suspicious in the process. After careful analysis, however, Ami had enough of the person's physicality to recognize them later. From there, Wrrlevgebev headed for the convention center while Ami, Zak, and Tyndel headed for the author's public appearance at Mr. Bagoya's Bazaar. The Tammine and Shalla, meanwhile, fanned into the city to work on the local separatist angle.

Meet the Author!

Vignon Wenden's busy schedule on Jazbina, including the notable Comic Convention keynote engagement.

The morning spent at the Bazaar proved to provide little additional information, save for convincing Ami that the mysterious person who left the hotel had not been the author, publicist or bodyguard. The three stayed through the entire event, then regrouped back at the hotel. Tyndel and the clones started making preparations for attending the big Comicon-style convention the next day while Zak and Ami attended the charity banquet with complimentary tickets provided by Alex.

The charity banquet proved to be significantly more fruitful than previous encounters. During the events, Zak noticed the bodyguard suspiciously stepping out into the service corridor and returning a minute later clearly annoyed. Zak slipped out through the same door a few minutes later to investigate. There he found a passage to the loading dock where he witnessed an unmarked white rental van pull in and Vignon's lead grip (later identified as Cyrus) get out. Following Cyrus back to the corridor, Zak was able to overhear a heated conversation in which Cyrus stated he'd only "stepped out for a quick smoke".

Finding that lie suspicious, Zak returned to the van and attempted to break in. He was unable to jimmy the lock but was able to get a good look in through the window and memorize the route that was still up on the navigation system. He slipped back into the party and met up with Ami, who was taking the opportunity to talk with the author and get a better handle on her opinions of the separatists, the republic, and the Jedi. With this valuable information, the pair met back up with their fellow Jedi to relate the discoveries.

The full group followed the route Zak had memorized and discovered it lead to a mixed-use tenement building. Asking around at a bar located on the ground floor, they learned someone had spotted Cyrus in the service level heading towards the apartment entrance. The Jedi entered the apartment area the same way and, having noticed a security camera in the turbolift, made their way to the small security office. After Ami used a quick ruse to trick the low-end security droid to abandon the room, Zak and Wrrl sliced into the system and downloaded the data security cameras.

Hernipakna
Hernipakna.jpg
The planetary capital of Hernipakna sits upon the same plateau that has held the royal city since before spaceflight. Surrounded by holy lands, the city has reached an incredible density.

The team reviewed the footage and was able to confirm Cyrus' visits and identify his destination as the fourth floor. In addition, they were able to identify at least one armed individual in the hallway. Tammine returned to complex observed long enough to eliminate a few of the apartments from the list of potential hideouts. The cam droid was tasked back onto watching the hotel for another night but did not see Cyrus depart again.

Saturday arrived, bringing with it the first day of the comic convention. The party arrived at the convention center over the course of the morning and fanned out across the area, looking for anything suspicious. After the keynote speech, Tammine snuck up on stage with the help of Wrrl so she could follow Cyrus after he finished cleaning up from the speech. Stealthily reading Cyrus' thoughts with the force, Tammine was able to discern that something related to the separatists' plan was going to occur soon, and the agent wasn't happy about it. She decided that the time for more direct action had come, she grabbed Cyrus and hauled him into a janitorial closet. After a quick but mostly unsuccessful interrogation, Tammine slew him and stashed his body.

Meanwhile, Zak snuck out into the staff parking lot to take advantage of the crew being occupied. Successfully breaking into the van this time, he searched it, discovering more information about their travels and activities. Satisfied, Zak took the keys and the hidden pistol with him and returned to the convention. After meeting back up to share the information they discovered, Zak and Ami decided to take the train back to Hernipakna and determine what the underground group was up to, despite the risk. A combination of sneaking and the Sense force power allowed them to discover the apartment the gang was hiding in.

They called it back to the group, and Tammine, Tyndel, and the clone team took Cyrus' rental van to get back to the city directly. The group took out of the wandering guard, then assembled outside the apartment hideout. The initial breach and assault were highly effective, causing one group of thugs to flee and cutting down the other in moments. Jago attempted to flee out the window but was killed with his assention line was cut. The group did, however, capture his procurer Velika who was able to provide some intelligence on the situation. The teams, it appeared, were in position but waiting for "a signal".

Meanwhile...
