Chargen Notes

Just a couple of notes about the spells:

  • I did a few corrections on typos
  • I added the (Re) to Piercing Shaft of Wood, since the spell includes a Rego requisite in order to make the wood fly after you transform it. (This is noted on the spell description, too.) Since this spell requires wood to be transformed, I'm going to assume Shona regularly carries a few branches (possibly in a quiver) so she has several to use for the spell. Magical archer!
  • I can see her doing that was well, likely a quiver of larger staff/spear sized sticks. And if that runs out, she can hijack arrows from Abeth's quiver. -Quicksilver

Laboratory

I was looking at the Laboratory Qualities section of the Covenants book, and came up with the following for Shona's (soon to be compleated) Laboratory:

Note that these are almost entire based on the idea that Shona had requested the topmost floor with the majority of the wall space replaced with nine windows each seven feet square, leaving the roof supported by little more then nine four foot wide pillers. It provides her with an amazing view of the vivid enviroment and brings in the fresh air for her laboratory work, but leaves her rather exposed, and with nothing but magic to insolate the lab from the cold artic winds.

  • Size +1 (30ft diamater room comes to just over 700sq ft.)

Lab Feedback

I think this looks correct. I think the features would probably be Au, but Aq works since we're perched on the edge of the island.

You're right, that since magi have entire floors to themselves, they have more lab space than your typical magus. This makes all the Nova Semitae labs, except for Lisa's, requiring a correction.

To remove the penalties from the Poorly Insulated Flaw, Shona will need to erect some sort of ward to keep out the weather. This will likely be a Rego Auram (Aquam requisite) spell or device that can keep the room secure from the weather. A device would be the ultimate goal as it will be self-sustaining. A spell would need to be cast regularly, and sooner or later she would botch its casting.

I'm not sure about the Upkeep +1 for being poorly insulated, as that usually represents the cost of additional candles, fires, etc, that Shona will not need to worry about.

I'm happy to remove Exposed's Upkeep +1, Though I suppose half of it could be justified as furnishings and other items not lasting as long in the exposed location.

You're probably right, furnishings wouldn't last as long unless/until you set up wards or something to keep out the weather. My understanding for a lot of the Upkeep is just trying to keep the place comfortable, which is largely fuel. Mark 19:45, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
