‘’Work in Progress’’
George Donovan is a Morally ambiguous level 4 Investigator
Description
George is a man of dark complexion in his early forties, standing at a little over six feet. He wears clothing that lets him blend in with the crowd, but almost always a slightly ill fitting suit in dark colors, no hat. His black hair is naturally wavy when it grows out, but George keeps the length short as a matter of choice. He has grown a short beard, silver starting to come in. His features are not particularly striking, with a body build being slightly above average. His voice is smooth with a slight Chicagoan accent, and has been known to adopt other accents when required.
History
George was born in Detroit, Michigan to a family with history in law enforcement and the judiciary. Growing up, George was no different than his father or grandfather and applied to the Detroit Police Department, despite receiving offers for much more lucrative positions within corporate security. He rose through the ranks with a combination of skill and family influence (without which would have been impossible to become more than a beat cop). During his twenty-five year career, he saw that there was so much of a criminal element from those just trying to get by.
After getting the promotion to Detective, he was assigned to the Organized Crime Unit. The detectives there were bought and paid for, not to mention vastly overworked from the sheer amount of cases they were handed. George saw an opportunity to do some good, and took a heavy case that handled the smuggling of illegal cybernetics. It took ten years, and three confidential informants, but Detective Donovan was able to get enough evidence to get a warrant for a raid on a local crime boss’ hotel. It was there that things went south and a firefight erupted. In the crossfire, Donovan shot the criminal overlord-to-be by putting a bullet through his synthetic shield, a woman named Lachesis. Donovan didn't face an inquiry due to the fact that the legal view of synthetics is akin to that of pets, and therefore property.
Shortly after, Lachesis testified in court, bringing a scandal to the father of the dead man, one CEO of Maeve Industries, Michael Sloan. In retaliation, Sloan arranged for a hit on Donovan, and his family home was burned to the ground with all inside during Sunday dinner. Donovan himself wasn’t present, as he was picking Lachesis up from the hospital. He came home to find his entire life in ashes with little to his name save for his savings. He retired from the department, and began to track down Sloan.
Sloan skipped town, and Donovan has managed to stay on Sloan’s trail all the way to New York City. Lachesis has stayed by Donovan’s side, although he has no idea why. She isn’t interested in him romantically, nor he to her, and is a complete mystery to him. However, she has been no end of useful to him in his quest to see justice brought to Sloan for the sake of his fallen family. He isn’t terribly picky about what form of justice it takes, either.
