Dearest Amanda,
I know it has been a long time. I know there are things you would rather leave behind. I. I am sending this without Vicor knowing. He doesn’t know, but I think he does suspect that something is different, but I do not know who to ask.
It would always have been Agatha or - now- you to ask about these sorts of things, and I am so afraid that they will think I am crazy. Is that something you can understand? Please try. I will always love you my daughter, even if we share different beliefs. But my beliefs cannot explain what I have been seeing and hearing and I am frightened. I tried talking to one of my good friends, and the pastor once in a light sort of way, and they brushed it off. I fear they do not have the depth to actually see what is there. Tall tales for non-believers, they say.
And I would rather call on Agatha’s wisdom via you than John Remington’s. You see, you can always pretend to be the prodigal child who returns only to storm off again. They will never suspect a hopeful meeting, a broken heat, and what’s the worst? A ritual and some herbs?. If I called John Remington for his brand of wisdom, I fear the whole town would burn to the ground.
I dare not say it in this letter. I feel like your timid mother has already written too much.
Loving you always, always,
Mom
