Origins

The Order of the Rose Veil is a minor Order Militant of the Adepta Sororitas, founded in the Segmentum Pacificus on the shrine-world of Velara Sancta, a planet of windswept plains and rose-hued deserts. Established in M38 during a time of upheaval, the Order was born from a vision of Saint Amalia Novena — a warrior-saint who, despite grievous wounds sustained in battle against Chaos, rose again to lead her sisters to victory, her faith unyielding. The Order was created to honor her legacy: a testament to resilience, duty, and the belief that all who serve the Emperor bear equal worth and burden, regardless of their struggles.

The Order’s name, "Rose Veil," reflects their dual nature — the delicate beauty of faith (the rose) paired with the protective shroud of duty (the veil). Their dusky rose robes symbolize the blood and sacrifice of Velara’s martyrs, while their white armor stands for purity and unblemished resolve, accented with gold to signify the Emperor’s divine light shining through even the darkest trials.

History

Founding: The Order emerged after a brutal campaign against a Chaos cult on Velara Sancta. Amalia Novena, a crippled Sister Superior, refused to yield—leading a ragtag band of survivors to reclaim a fallen cathedral. Her miraculous survival and victory earned her sainthood, and the Order of the Rose Veil was founded in her name, vowing to uphold her creed: "Strength is not in the body alone, but in the will to stand."

The Trial of the Thorn (M39): Facing a Tyranid splinter fleet, the Order’s infantry held a mountain pass for three days, their Repentia charging into the fray as living martyrs. The Canoness of the time, clad in white armor, fell but inspired a counterattack that saved Velara.

The Crimson Pact (M41): Allied with the Star Knights and Ember Wyrms during a sector-wide war, the Rose Veil fought alongside these forces—Seraphim soaring like avenging angels, Retributors unleashing holy fire, and Sisters in Rhinos crashing through enemy lines. Their shared resilience forged a lasting bond.

Culture and Beliefs

Equal Duty: Inspired by Saint Amalia's own values, the Order believes every Sister—whether hale or scarred—bears equal responsibility to serve. Repentia are not just penitents but honored warriors, their sacrifice a mirror to the Order’s ethos.

Resilience: The Rose Veil prizes endurance—physical or spiritual wounds are badges of honor, not weaknesses. Their Canonesses often bear visible scars, a testament to their trials.

Faith in Action: Infantry-heavy, they fight on foot or in close-knit transports—dusky rose robes flowing as they march, white armor gleaming. Gold accents on their weapons and banners shine as beacons of hope.

Notable Relic: The Veil of Amalia

A tattered banner of dusky rose silk, edged in gold, said to have been carried by Saint Amalia Novena. Wielded by the Canoness, it inspires the Sisters to fight on, their will unbroken.

  • Dusky Rose Robes: A muted, dusty pink (e.g., Citadel Screamer Pink base, shaded with Carroburg Crimson, highlighted with Pink Horror)—soft yet somber, like Velara’s desert roses stained with martyr’s blood.
  • White Armor: Pure white (e.g., White Scar, shaded with Apothecary White)—unblemished faith amidst war’s grime.
  • Gold Accents: Gold on bolters, armor trim, and icons (e.g., Retributor Armour, Agrax Earthshade)—the Emperor’s light, reflecting Karen’s radiant strength.
