King's Galquek is an Outer Rim world that is briefly mentioned in the E.U. that we are using for our game because of it's brief, but interesting reference. It's Wookiepedia page is brief and is copied in its entirety in the small section below for reference. This is then followed with how we are extending the history and knowledge of the world for our own purposes. A third section illustrates the town on the planet that will be pivotal in the game.

Wookiepedia and the Canon

King's Galquek

Wookiepedia states:

"King's Galquek, or "Kay-Gee" for short, was a planet located in the Meridian sector of the Outer Rim Territories.

The planet had a rich history involving royalty. During the New Sith Wars, King's Galquek became a Battlefeild in 1,500 BBY at the Battle of King's Galquek, shortly before the Battle of Mizra the Republic was apparently victorious."

Kay-Gee is in map Square R-7, right off the Perlemian Trade Route, right on the border with the Mid Rim.

It appeared in Planet of Twilight, which came out in 1997. This had Luke and Leia investigating Nam Chorios and the parasitic Death Seed plague. This is all nasty stuff that hasn't happened yet.

Other Places in the Meridian Sector

These can pepper or add context for the conversations your NPCs provide, as well as questions PCs may have.

Nyemari is the bright center of the sector with its capital Anem's glittering skyscrapers. Its ruled by a duchess and has a substantial Imperial garrison.

Nam Chorios, if you want to reference it, was a hard core penal colony Australia - just add auto firing gun stations, larger deserts, a constant state of twilight and a dark side entity, but no one knows about that one yet. Might be why the colonists became such bad asses though. Now it's a colony world. But they still have prisons. And they take prison time seriously it's just what they went though. *Players should totally be threatened by prison here at some point.*

Budpock is a world with Rebel sympathies, and is known for pirate gangs (comes with the territory). Did the Imps give up here? It could be a start/end or supply point for reference.

Ampliquen might have rebel sympathies under the surface. Right after Endor they sued for treaty with the Rebels. It's terrestrial and agricultural.

Durren was a New Republic Naval base, and was so overtly towards "the end of the Galactic Civil War." It is, however, unstated whether this means it was once an Imperial Naval Base previously. It is terrestrial and has an orbital shipyard station.

Extentions Towards The Game

Interpretation

At the moment, the Meridian sector is an Imperial held sector. The more important worlds, like Nyemari, are deserving of greater presence because of their status. Nam Chorios likely has a garrison as well because Palpatine does have a habit of exiling and imprisoning those he doesn't want to quite kill yet. Smaller terrestrial and agricultural worlds are nominally Imperial, with just enough uniforms and a recruiting office to count as an official "presence" for the bean counters. For some kids, the hopeful Luke Skywalker farm boys out there, they may see it as a potential ticket off their world, even if it's just for an education or only a job on the bigger world of Nyemari.

The particular history of Kay-Gee gives us ample possibilities for something strange in the Force from it's history in the New Sith Wars. The idea is that an ancient race made the Cerebro Temple Device (CTD). The Sith found and tried to exploit it during the New Sith Wars. These were from 2000-1000 BBY while the Sith were on the rise. They lost it, and the Jedi dug it up. How perfect.

Our History

Or, in other words, "what really happened."

Long, long ago, the Rakata, an ancient race in tune with the Force to an absurd degree, created the CTD. They were, to be very short and frank, canabalistic humanoids with amphibian traits who drew solely on the Dark Side and used the Force to power hyperdirves and other technology, spreading like a pestilence as the Infinite Empire. They got knicknamed the Builders. They would seek out worlds with strong Force signatures. They would conquer and enslave the populations. Imagine if they could find *people* with strong Force signatures. Those little bastards.

They are such bastards, they devolved the other race that helped uplift them. Yeah, real nice guys. They are perfect for our purposes! Their civilization peaked about 30,000 BBY and subsequently collapsed with a few remnants and survivors. A Force plague decimated their ranks and the species is now Force blind (I don't think we should argue!).

Moving along... the site of the CTD falls into decline. Being out of the way, it's possible a remnant stayed on, trying to use the device, but to no avail. Time took it's course, and the few survivors moves away from the site. They cleared out and left relatively little evidence behind them. A few thousand years go by, and the landscape changes to cover the CTD partially. By the time people begin to colonize the world, the traces of the Rakata were gone - except the one really really big artifact, the CTD itself.

The device, much like the other planets in the sector has a Force entity that is definitely of the Dark Side, but is livable and benign to the inhabitants. This one in particular is attractive and wants to be used. Unfortunately, it is rather hard to get to. It's sweet, and it so wants to be your friend and is a suck up until it gets you to open up and do exactly what it wants (or it turns on you in a rage). If your goal - galactic domination - is like its, you might get along just peachy.

The Sith had picked up on some of the stories passed down about these Dark Side wielding Empire expanding brutal maniacs, one of which was certainly a tale about the CTD, though likely obscuring what it was, like the Jedi's tale in the Holocron. Investigation and rumor over the years leads them to the right planet, and they discover the wonders of the CTD during an excavation in the height of the New Sith Wars. It's like suddenly being given funding and keys to an atom bomb but no instruction manual. You can use it if you figure it out. But you don't want to use it while things are still running well. Things were running very well for the Sith.

Both sides in the New Sith Wars were working towards the devastating Battle of Mizra (which the Sith totally crush the Republic). But, the Republic still won (apparently) the Battle of King's Galquek just before Mizra was waged. In order to win the greater battle, the Sith must have had to retreat strategically. They abandoned and hid their ace in the hole, the CTD, hoping to come back later. There was "nothing of report" at the excavation site. The Sith did sweep through much of the Outer Rim, claiming swathes of territory... but they could not get back to Kay-Gee. Or perhaps those that knew about it's true nature as more than a piddling agri-world could only pass it down in secrets and stories deep in Sith lore. The "important" Sith still knew, and that takes us to the Jedi and Palpatine.

Sidious picked up on the rumors and myths about the CTD, perhaps like the earlier Sith before him thinking it was an object or device hidden within the Temple itself for safekeeping. Now, what better way to find out if this is true than to have the Jedi do the dirty work for you (in this case, perhaps literally, try getting dirt out of that Naboo velvet)? Palpatine has shown an adept hand at working the Jedi, so it seems reasonable for him, or his master before him, to have dropped the right clues for the Corps to go check out a few sites of historical interest to the history of the Jedi and the Republic. One, of course, was the "Buried Temple Complex of King's Galquek, estimated perhaps 30,000 years ago, links to Builder culture?" as the notes may have read. That would flag down any historian or Force user.

The Jedi went, and started to make notes, but Palpatine had other fish to fry. He was, like always, juggling about a hundred balls at once. The Clone Wars started, and the Jedi were recalled. The notes from the digs had started to come in, but many, like the Kay-Gee Complex, did not get reported in, or were left aside, or burned in the Jedi Temple because they were notes on flimsi.

Now that his power is established, the Emperor can start to tidy up those loose threads. They may have been trying to track her for some time. When he and Vader found the Jedi from the last episode was carrying data of value, and was going to protect it with her life, they knew it wasn't a normal holocron. It wouldn't be worth it. She was identified as one of the Jedi who worked on the project (not a peon, but an archaeologist and teacher) and must have found what he thinks is the Sith artifact (the CTD). Well, he's mostly right. She found it, and that was a secret worth dying for, and putting in trustworthy hands. A bunch of Padawans with street smarts are, in some ways, way better than one surviving knight with no ways to blend in.

Of course, the locals think the above ground ruins are an entertaining place for a picnic and hide and go seek for the kids. You might find a teen couple there at night every so often, but it's not like anyone really goes inside. It's mostly blocked off. But the place just has such a friendly atmosphere!

Little Town, Such a Quiet Village
